help with a stroked 383 for a airgrabber RR

So here is the car, 1969 RR coupe with a factory 4 speed and 8-3/4 w/ 3.55 sure grip.
We have a correct year block sitting at the machine shop rough bored at .060.
the car will have tti coated headers and a nice dual exhaust system. We want for the most part a stock appearing engine but making in the range of 400-450 hp and still be able to run pump gas 91. Thinking about the 440 source 438 kit and stealth heads. Maybe a lunati voodoo hyd. cam, a 80gph mechanical fuel pump, and a dual plane intake that will fit the airgrabber.
Any builds like this around here?

Am assuming you are using a 383. 060 is a pretty big bore. Examine cylinder walls carefully for enough thickness. Will require over sized pistons and rings, heads can be painted to hide them a bit, have a long talk with cam grinder to go over specs and they can recommend the right cam for your engine. Push for about 10 to 1 on compression or a little better to help it run well. Ask others for more suggestions.

yes, the block is at the machine shop, has been magged, sonic tested for thickness, and will have a 440 source 438 stroker kit which includes the fully balanced rotating assembly.
Trying to figure out things like which pistons, the flat tops or dished, a good cam choice and what intake that will make good power and fit under the air grabber.

If you use stealth heads put a flat top piston in as close to zero deck as possible. That is an 88cc head with a dish piston the compression will be way down

the reason I ask is because the last one i did was just that, and the stealth heads are 80cc, and we had over heating problems during a very hot summer.

I bet you had other cooling issues. Stealth heads and flat tops give you standard compression and there are allot of those running around.

radiator full of crud, water pump not working correctly/worn out, broken spring in lower radiator hose allowing it to partially collapse, no shroud on the radiator, bad thermostat.

there is a partial list of the other things that could be wrong. good luck getting all straightened out. definite crappy feeling sitting on the side of the road watching steam come out of the radiator.

Not to argue, never cc’d mine. The posted info says 80cc, flat tops should work well on pump gas.

I’ve got to agree with qbird (durn it) cam grinders have tech lines to suggest the “best” grind. Unless you are dead set on a particular vendor, check with several. Its fun picking cams, very easy to go overboard on the street! You’ve got a little more room for experimenting than guys with an auto trans.

so now I have noticed that Mancini makes a 383 stroker kit with a 4.15 stroked crankshaft, any thoughts guys?
and Muscle motors makes one with a 3.9 stroked crank and 6.700 rod.

I’ve bought several items from Mancini, they have a large display at the nats and usually sponsor a race class. I’ve saved freight by having them deliver items to the nats.

They were the first Direct Connection MOPAR dealer. I’m not familiar with their stroker kits, but imo anything they handle will be of high quality.

I have also bought a lot of stuff (not one of their stroker kits) from 440 Source and it’s always been value received. Dealing with them, a tidbit is all they do is B and RB MOPAR items.

You probably cant go too far wrong with either one! Good Luck!

Of course the way to guarantee they stay together is just to put a two barrel carb on 493 ci. That way it won’t break and won’t go fast enough to scare a wimp driver or heaven forbid squeak a tire!
