Now I can monitor and data log my A/F ratio, as an additional tuning tool to whip my Promax modded Holley 2bbl carbs into shape.
I've heard about the outboard carbs tip in lean spike, but now I've seen it. A/F ratio goes from 13:1 to 20:1 for about 1 second, then back to a more appropriate range. Good to know, especially if you added a nitrous system. In this case a 1 second delay after WOT would make sense. Don't want to spray at 20:1 !

Never run NOS unless pedal is to the metal. Fuel enrichment mandatory for cooling and predetonation issue, usually extra injector added at air intake with nitrous oxide nozzle(s). All your doing is adding extra O2 as the nitrogen and oxygen separate at around 500-550 degrees. As I recall back to those days......

Air/fuel ratio gauges are simply vac gauges; at least on my Boss302 that’s what it is.

My wideband O2 system lets me know in real time what the Air/Fuel ratio is. It is far more informative for the purpose I intended than a "vacuum gauge": fine tuning my 3 Promax modded Holley 2bbl carbs, at ALL stages of function and throttle position.
Never run NOS unless pedal is to the metal.
In the case I specifically referred to, in the case of the 6bbl, if I had not seen or know about the outboard carb tip in lean spike, I may have just had a WOT switch (if I ever add nitrous-I do have the Nitrous Express 6bbl system Holley 2bbl carb spray plate) and a RPM "window switch"...Now that I see the outboard carbs opening cause a one second LEAN condition, I would time a one second DELAY at WOT before the nitrous system hit.
Get it?

Good idea on delay but was thinking the lean condition is more than offset by the fuel injection nozzle along with each nitrous nozzle. Mine were side by side with changeable nozzles even and dual solenoids opened at the same time. This was after intercooler on turbocharger, under pressure. Probably carbureted with back fire would back blow through air filter. Not with compressed air coming opposing direction. Oops, blown up intercooler; designed safety relief that opened to vent off shortly after. Lost only one intercooler. Outboard carbs must be vacuum actuated rather than straight mechanical intervention?

This project never happened until mid ‘80’s, not on my road runner. Just noted a few are using on site though. It is disappointing to see a gauge that says Air/Fuel ratio and works like a vacuum gauge, maybe so if I didn’t have an Oldsmobile vac gauge mounted on road runner tunnel ahead of shifter would never know similarities. Was always amusing, in inches of mercury Hg.

Yes, like this idea but this particular one is just a running opposite with digital, about same thing. Meaning light throttle shows towards “0” and hard acceleration shows full scale with corresponding readout. That’s MHO anyways, I’d have put something in like that myself but not these days.
