So my understanding of Air Conditioned Roadrunners in 69, the 383ci cars, was that they were the non-HP 330 Horse Power engines. They were not painted the orange color, they were the turquoise color. So they came with the Carter AVS 4616, not the Carter AVS 4682? Although they were both 4bbl carbs. Plus other things like the cam from the 440 & an added windage tray?

Why was this? What was it about the HP engine that it didn't come with Air?

Could you get Air in a Hemi car? An A-12?

I have never read a definitive explanation as to why the AC cars got the 330 horse engine in '68 & '69 - I always assumed that Ma MoPar just wanted the tamer camshaft used in conjunction with the AC set-up. Pretty sure that the '70 RRs with AC got the 335 horse version based on what I have read, so that makes it an even muddier set of circumstances. Hopefully someone will chime in with all of the details.

No AC in a Hemi car. No AC in an A12. Hell, you couldn't even get disc brakes with the A12 package...

OK, then another question. The GTX which had as the standard engine a 440ci, granted it was a single 4bbl carburetor, not the 3-2bbl version, almost always had Air Conditioning. Same with the Hemi GTX, again just the one carb (I think).

As I understand it the GTX was the upscale version so it had things as standard equipment that were considered options on the Roadrunner if even available.

So the Roadrunner with Air was more or less a Sport Satellite, but with Roadrunner trim. (Non HP 383ci with a 4bbl.)

Fair assessment.

As for the GTX, you only got air with the girly-matic. 440/4-speed/AC was not offered.

You couldn't get A/C on any Hemi and they all had 2 4 bbls. The 440 was large enough to make the cam more docile where in the 383 with an A/C load it would bring the vacuum down to low for a good tune, early emissions. That's my story and I'm sticking with it LOL Actually an old Chrysler Rep told me that years ago.

Coulda swore I saw a Hemi GTX with a single carb. But you're absolutely right, they all were born with 2 - GTX or Roadrunner.

In my research it also said you could get the 3-2bbl carb set up in the GTX with the 440.

I was thinking about a specific car I saw in a private collection/museum. It was a 1969 for sure, alleged to be a matching everything survivor car. It was pristine, less that a couple thousand on the OD. But its been years since I saw it. Almost bought a convertible RR from the guy, was a 4-speed car, B5, with power windows. But we couldn't make a deal, I wanted to dump the car I have at the time which was in pieces everywhere. I'm going to look it up and see if he still owns it. But you are correct, no single carb hemi's Roadrunner of GTX in 69.

Nope. The only 440-6 cars in '69 were the A12 Runners and Bees.

From Haggerty's web site:"The base GTX engine was the 375 bhp 440, with the 390 bhp Six-Pack an extra $119 and the Hemi and extra $700. The Hemi was a serious car, but it cost serious money."

It was an option in '70 and '71, but not in '69. No way. No how. I don't care which or how many non-MoPar oriented websites you cite. If they state otherwise they are just wrong, or the victims of shoddy investigating and/or editing, or all of the above. The A12s introduced the 3X2bbl set-up on 440s in '69 and it went mainstream in '70. End of story.

I believe you are correct. I sent Hagerty an email about the error.
