Differences by year of first gen Roadrunners?

Hello all,

I'm currently looking for a first gen Roadrunner, I like the 69 best from what I can tell, but all three years are awesome (obviously). Any way, I cannot find after some google searches a detailed list of what the differences are by year, 68, 69, 70. I was hoping this forum with you experts, could help! I appreciate any responses fellas.

68/69 same body style. minor differences side reflectors, tail lights, grille
70 different one year only body style although most of interior dimensions etc remained the same. dash layout was different but size etc the same.

Off the top of my head:

The side markers are round on a 68 / rectangle on a 69
The hood scoops turns to the side on a 68 / to the top on a 69
No Air Grabber option in 68 / Air Grabber available in 69
The tail has a decorative metal piece on a 68 / not present on a 69
The grill on a 68 & 69 are different.
The 383 is painted turquoise on the 68 / Orange on the 69
The bird decal on the 68 is all black / It's in color on the 69
No convertible made in 68 / Available in 69

The 68 & 69 in my opinion look pretty much the same

The 1970 in my opinion is a completely different car, minimal resemblance.

70 was a new body style same floor pan and unibody as 68-69. Pistol grip shifter and vacuum operated air grabber and more hi impact colors were new

I get the engine differences, the wiki page had some decent info. I'm trying to get into the real cosmetic differences, like decals, interior changes, exterior and everything in between. Thanks for the responses for far, really appreciate it.

I’ve restored two 3rd gen Corvettes when I was younger, I would like a project but if the price was right I’d pick up a restored. Seem like they’re more difficult to find than the GMs and Fords.

Not nearly as many of them made so everything costs more also.

That is the truth. Or the fact that we always wanted one of our own. Yes part's are expensive but the thing is to find a hole car that has not been striped by some one else before you get it. Something a simple as the upper inside window trim. Part's add up when someone strip's a car to paint and no one knows where it all went. Also the guy's that decide to use bond o instead of putting new metal into the car. Hope you find what your looking for. I found mine on Racing Junk dot com. It was close to home and the motor did run and look's like it was rebuilt 30 over. If you find a motor with all new freeze plugs even in the back of a motor it mean's to me some one had been through the motor. :thumbsup2:

So far I've checked Craiglist in my area, ebay motors, and classiccars.com - most everything I find is mostly restored at $35k+. I would like to spend less on a project car that I can do over time (I'm a sucker for keeping things mostly original, save for a few performance parts for the motor/exhaust/suspension). If I could find maching #'s engine/transmission (prefer 4spd, but the 727 auto is a great trans), that's my ultimate goal. Just dont want to work on a rust bucket either. I'm sure my search will take some time. Anyone have any other resources the recommend?

There was a B5 coup for sale at $35K I saw on the Facebook page 1969 Roadrunner in Detail. I believe it was also on eBay I think a few days ago. Looked to me a nice car and pretty much turn key. I think the car was in Texas. I'll look again. But I can almost guarantee you that if you don't buy a car that's already restored, and provided it was done correctly, anything else is going to have rust issues.

That's actually one I've been eyeballing, I was wondering about the fender tag as well...I wish that was still there.

Yah, don't know. You could write to the seller and find out if he has the build sheet, that would be just as good and with that documentation, you could get a replica made, if it's important. In any event, don't buy it sight unseen is my recommendation. I don't think its the same car I saw on Facebook, but it could be both in Texas, both B5 with the black hood stripe. I seem to remember seeing the fender tag on the other one though. I'll keep looking and if I see it I'll post it or ask him to do so. You'll find what you want, be patient.

You can end up with more than 35K in buying a restoration car that you get at a low price. That is if every thing is their. Yes shop around and you will find what your looking for. :thumbsup2:

The main thing that bothers me is the performance hood treatment, i.e. the black is way too shiny and does not look good at all , at least for me.
