Internal number on a 489 third member

Hi guys So, am planning on installing the correct third member in my 69. I got a good deal on a 489 pumpkin with 276 gears. Planning on putting in 355 gears. A couple questions, first , where can i find out what the numbers stamped inside the unit mean (see pics) and two , what aftermarket sure grip do most people prefer? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Dose this one have the clutch plates or the cone type. Most prefer the clutch type. If you look at other post on the gear ratio.

Its an open unit, no sure grip, so will be looking to swap it out.

good unit. Not recommended for a worked 440 running slicks though!!

You might want to look at the Dania rear end. If your not going to race the car then 8 3/4 would be fine.

10/4 on that Fred69Runner. I have the 489 with the cone type third member. Got to take a look at it know that it need's a ring gear and pinion. I rebuilt my 471 with new pinion and ring gear. But found out the spider's gear's are worn pretty bad. Could not get new one's. So will run this car with that one till I rebuild the 489. Would love to have the one with the clutch pack. Maybe one day. So much money has gone into finishing the car. Wish you luck and no on slick on mine either. Running 8s in the back.

Yup, same here. Won't be pulling any Wheelies with mine. Just want a good solid driver.
There is no end on how much cash is needed.

Yes and mine is not a driver yet. But you know like I do bound to burn a little rubber here and their. That is if a Mustang pull's up to the light next to you. Or some kind of Chevy.

Ive got a nice unit freshly rebuilt with some nice internals on the shelf for you whenever youre ready Russ.
