At least I THINK the second picture is a paint marking.
It's all very cryptic to me.
Especially the yellow swirly thing on the rear center back side.
All nicely preserved by oil build up.
I do like the "H" though.:)

AZ Desert,
pretty well preserved inspection and build marks. The 593 is what I call a rack # so they know what diff to pull for the build, if its like the transmission it is also found in the build sheet.

There are some reference books out there that can tell you what each of those marks are. If I remember right, mark workman on graveyard cars pulled one out and was going over the marks on an episode.

Ex means "has been" and a spurt is a drip under pressure.
"....has evolved ...." it says.
Checking back on the thread because I'm starting on the rear.
In other words this stuff isn't set in stone and "correct" can sometimes be somewhat subjective to say the least.
That book is a work in progress then.?
I just pulled to chunk and much to my surprise it is an open.
Now I've got to check the build sheet to see it it was supposed to have a sure grip.
That is IF I can ever translate the numbers to the letters that I find on the internet.
(Or is that vice versa?)
It never makes sense to me.
Nothing surprises me on "these cars".
We don't need no stinking quality control.
But hey, the cars are 50 years old.
Let's blame funky body and mechanical stuff on a previous owner :fool:
