That is quite the machine. Thanks for sharing the story and the pics.
Sorry for the loss of your Dad. I am sure the car is a great memory of him. I couldn't imagine parting with it either.

I emailed Dan a link to this thread. He has been tracking these cars for awhile now and is very knowledgeable. This is what he wrote me back:
Hello Dave,
I've got info on 23 LA built "99" Road Runners that are either "Omaha orange" (a fleet color that dates back to at least the '50s, Michigan...
Sorry I was tired last night...I forgot your car had a vinyl roof lol Please forget about the 3 hole question.
The colours on those old chip charts are tough to go by Omaha Orange is a really bright solid colour, EK2 is pretty similar but not quite the same and in 1970 you could also get EV2...
Your car was assembled in Los Angeles. Those LA fender tags have their own characteristics. I've seen them with a different font as well. They are the only assembly line that I can think of that has two distinct fender tags for the same model year.
The 99 code for special order paint. In 1969...
I am pretty sure if you wanted a 440 in your 1969 Road Runner convertible....they would have sold you a GTX.
The way to prove it would be the original engine. Check the pan rail VIN stamping...if they are a match that would be a good start in saying it came from the factory like that.

Congrats. You sure have a thing for '70 RR verts! How many have you had so far? I guess this is why you cut loose that Hemi RR. The more I looked at that car the more I liked it.
Dave
I haven't been here for awhile. Lots of changes. The Banner itself is a real clean look, I really liked the old version but I guess this one is better with the new format.
Dave
Here a pic of the tag for you numbers guys. Seems that they introduced Vit C - K2 on Feb 1st 1969 so this was one of the last Omaha Orange cars.
Nice sheetmetal car, needs all the mechanicals gone over. Just playing with the wiring the last couple of days
