I remember it being a late January build, but did not recall the date... Thanks! Also, I don't recall the assembly plant... St Louis? Allen

So far almost no one has posted SPDs... my two SPDs narrow any possible date related change to betweeen October 15, 1968 and January 21, 1969. I believe someone on Moparts with black screens had a SPD of November 7, 1968... narrowing the window a bit further. Still looking for real...

What you say is certainly possible... the line keeps moving! I am looking for proof like these drawing notes that settled a paint question on 1968 Charger taillight panels... see attached picture.

When I dis-assemble the car for restoration, I will thoroughly document the layers of paint on the screens. Back in 1976 I could not find any trace of red... and I really wanted to! My RR is a fairly early build... October 15, 1968 (SPD)

I talked to Frank Baldason about the subject a few days ago... he suggested it might be due to different vendors making the screens. That could also explain the different screen side rails seen in pictures posted on Moparts... see attached pictures.

Sorry for the delay in replying... it has been a busy week! To be as bleached out and faded as it was in 1976, it would have to have been done when the car was almost new. The only "rattle can" conversion that I can document was from black to red... by me in the early 1980s... see attached...

Nuts HUH?... Arm Chair Experts HUH?... I bought my 1969 Hemi Road Runner in December of 1976 with about 28,000 miles on the odometer, and it had faded black paint on the hood stripes... including the inlet screens. My RR was a St Louis built car with a SPD of "A15"... the other black screen...

    New Kid on the Block

The GTX belongs to my brother, and the pictures were taken in the 1980s when it had about 48,000 miles on the odometer. The car now now has about 56,000 miles on it because it is rarely driven, and is essentially in the same condition. The only B5 Mopar that I currently own is a 440 4Spd 1969...

You are correct, the owner was a quadrapelic who really loved Superbirds. The center of the rear bumper was hinged to pivot down so a ramp could be used to wheel the owner up into the car... note the viewing windows at the front of the enclosure. Here in a picture from about 1980 showing me...

Taken at the 1982 Chrysler Car Club Conference at Mid-America Raceway near St Louis, Missouri... The CCCC is what became the Mopar Nats. The third car from the front is a friend's 1970 Hemi `Cuda & the fourth is a 1969 Hemi GTX that I came in when we drove up from San Antonio, Texas. Allen
