The release spring seems shot on emergency brake pedal, meaning that when released the pedal comes up most of the way but not the last inch, keeping the brake light on after the brake is released. I could adjust the switch but there is play in the pedal that suggest a spring is shot when released. I am trying not to spend 250 bucks to buy a new pedal but when I look at it I can't see where the spring is, if there is one. If I take out that emergency brake pedal assembly, will I find a spring behind there to replace or is there an adjustment so it travel up the whole way?

Usually the problem is a rusty cable causing the pedal not to fully release.

It seems to have an inch of play when released, play meaning no tention bringing to to make brake light switch, but i assime thay could be the cable. Thanks

If I had to bet on the brake mechanism or the cable, I'd put my money on the cable.

Adjust the brake cable. It's stretched.

Adjustment is under left side of car, in front of leaf spring where it changes from one cable to two. You'll see it.

If the adjustment is already bottomed out, it's time for new cables.
