Bare metal.
Harold have yours rusted? Mine had a little rust and also shinny but when I dropped them into pool acid they foamed up as if they were zinc coated. I do know from my fastener book the screws are zinc coated.

The brackets on my GTX are rusted but the screws are not. The box that I bought at the nationals this past year has rusty brackets, but no screws. If they were zinc coated, it was very thin.

I just asked this question via email to a good friend of mine, Paul Jacobs, of Jacobs and Angelly Restorations. He has been a judge at the Mopar Nationals for 68-70 b-bodies. He has also built back to back best of show cars for the nationals. I think he will know how the brackets and screws should be finished. I will post his reply when I get it.

i am working on a little project with a persons ram charger and have found the same thing with the bracket. after cleaning with evaporust (also using it to clean the slot car track) there seems to be bare metal areas with shiny areas.

Here is the reply from Paul.

"Harold, The brackets were actually a black phosphate or bare metal that rusted quickly, the rivets were the same way. The screws were zinc though. I think I would clear zinc all of the parts I could get off of it to prevent that in the future, plus it looks nice. PJ"
