Blame Basketcase, he made me do it.

I'm looking for a set of slot mags (a pair) at Carlisle. I want to run
275/60's on the back of my car. To do that (according to tirerack.com) I need
at least a 15x8 rim. Basket case is saying I can get away with 15x7.5.

Right now I've got 15x8.5 with 3.5 (or so) backspace. I'm confident it's got
to be at least 4" on the backspace. All I can fit right now is 255/60 and I've got
around 3/4 of an inch between tire and the quarter panel lip.

Long and short: Can I get away with 15x7.5 with correct backspace? Thanks
for input.

Got to love slot mags. They look good, and there are a few thousand of them
piled up at Carlisle for not-a-lot of money. Hoping to score the right ones.

Your lack of backspacing is why your tires are so close to the quarter panel lip now.
Best fitment on a 15" X 8" is with 4.25" - 4.5" backspacing.
You can run a 275 on a 7.5" rim...but the extra .5" will give the tire a better footprint and again it's not the tire size or the rim width that is your current issue; it's your wheel's backspacing. Unless you find a smokin' deal on a pair of 7.5" wheels, get a pair of 8" wheels with more backspacing. :cents:

BTW Sam - one of the problems you will encounter here is that you are looking at 30-40 year old wheels and nobody gave a sh*t about tucking the tire up under the car when these wheels were being made so it is hard to find them with more than 3.5" of backspacing. The credo back then was the deeper the dish the better. Just throw some Gabriel Hi-Jackers on the back and put about 10 million pounds of air in them...2"-3"-4" of tire sticking out from under the quarter panel was cool...

I only accept blame if you end up with Cragar SS on that beauty! You should see the backspace on mine(or lack there of)about 1-2" :D

Ray - based upon the previous 4 thousand threads dedicated to this and your contributions to them
I figured that 15x8 with 4-4.5 backspace was essential as you mentioned above. I got a little excited
when it came up that 15x7.5 "would work." I've got 15x7.5 on the front of my car. See avatar.

Doing a little research it looks like ET mags did make a 15x8.5 with 4 inch backspace that I will
hunt for in Carlisle, or some other make if it's an identical match.

One last thing, ET did make a 15x10 rim as well. Is a 15x10 with 5 inch backspace workable?

No personal experience with that combo so I don't want to lead you astray...I believe Chris has pulled it off so maybe he will chime in... I know a 10" can be done on a Super Bee, but the wheel openings are cut differently... :cents:
