Check the accelerator pump shot. It may be too lean. Either worn or needs more.

Some carbs have different holes to insert the linkage. If so experiment and see if there is any improvement.

Good luck, advise what you find.:beep:

If you have points it sounds like they need adjusted or a bad condenser

Sounds like that something with the carb. Maybe a plugged filter. Check the screen at the inlet on the carb. Mine was doing this and the timing was out and the carb adjustment was bad. It ended up being bad floats. Could be the power pump on the carb. Let us know what you find out. Russ.

It was gonna be a secret weapon. Qbird now has pics to upload. Its beyond my capabilities. I just cobble with plasma cutter and mig welder. Hot fun!

The ‘55 was evil enough to run against ANY shoebox on the planet. Beat aftermarket chassis and LS powered pro built cars. Won Tri 5 Nats and would do mid pack against pony cars and vettes, sold to fund Stupidbaker.

Building pre ‘49 toy for smaller class and should be seriously competitive. The ‘55 was down to 3,200 lbs. before the Stupidbaker goes on a diet it scales at 2,560

Yee hah, here we go again! It’s so damn ugly, nothing done to it can make it look any worse!:soapbox::steering:

I just went through this on a brand new Holley 750 dp stupid pump cam needed to be changed and the pump arm needed adjustments. Sucked none of my qft carbs ever needed that. I think Holley has gone down hill

Backfire through the carb is usually a lean condition in the tip in circuit, could be caused by timing or carb adjustments or basic set-up of the carb.
You say the timing is correct? What do you call correct? Where's your initial at and where's the total, do you have the vac can connected? Which port Constant or ported? What RPM does the timing all come in at?
What ignition box are you using and with what coil?
You say you adjusted the pump shot and it's better, sounds like it's not completely gone? Maybe you just put a band aid on the issue and really didn't solve the real problem.
What carburetor on you working with?

Lots of questions??? These are just the basics once we know these then we can ask a lot more to determine where the real problem lies.
