Bearing down on a hose

Lower radiator hose started leaking today after a drive. Was leaking at the
connection to the water pump housing.

Dumb question (but honest): Hose didn't appear cracked. The clamp tightened
a bit with a screwdriver. Tightened even more with a socket. Do I risk cracking the
neck on the housing if I tighten the hell out of the clamp?
I could have kept going
but stopped out of this fear.

Thanks

The hose clamp would break first.
