I have always paid big attention to engine oils with motorcycles, but i'm going back into the 383mag RR wondering what anyone else has to say about brand, viscosity, filter etc for the desert climate here in Phoenix??

Get the NAPA gold filter it is made by Wix. Oil weight depends on the mileage on the motor I run a 10-30 but make sure it has (ZDDP) zinc phosphate to protect the lifters and fuel pump push rod. Valvoline Racing, Brad Penn and others

Ask 5 different peolpe and you'll get 10 different answers, but for what it's worth, I run Rotella T5 10W30.
As for filters, I'll use most anything except Fram.

P.S.
Walmart SuperTech filters are made by WIX.

I was going to lean towards Valvoline 10-30 or 10-40,but thought here in the land of the scorching sun(Arizona) a little thicker oil might be beneficial. The oil filter info about the check valve i did not know. Thank you!!

I'm running qbrad Penn 20-50, doesn't really drop below 55 even in the winter here summers get up around 100 on most days.. So far so good

Just dropped in 5qts of Valvoline 20-50 racing(VR1) and it has ZDDP. Also the napa gold (wix) filter. Should be good for a few K's. Now i just have to make sure it does'nt run out my questionable rear main seal.
