Can't get transmission to engage cold

[JRs Road Runner]

!968 runner won't engage transmission first thing in morning without revving engine, after that works fine until sits after about 3 hours. Any help would be appreciated.

Torque converter drains down sitting over night. After starting let it idle in neutral for a few minutes before shifting to drive.

as said it is draining down start the engine in neutral for 1 to 2 min and all will be right.
