So I blew off work today and went to the Harrisburg Sportsman Show. To much stuff, to big a venue, and one hundred thousand people walking around like the walking dead. Including me. But as I'm blindly shuffling my way through the crowd, unaware if I've already been to this room before or not and I see two carburetors sitting on a display table with a guy who is selling knife sharpening stuff. I had to blink a few times, but as I got closer, sure enough there was a Carter AVS sitting there and some other, it was painted black, I didn't notice what make it was.
So I start talking to the guy, now keep in mind I'm not anywhere close to being a mechanic and my technical knowledge of how stuff works is very limited. He's selling some kind of what looks like a metal plate, about 1/2 inch thick that goes between the carb and the intake to keep the carburetor cooler. This device shields the carb from the engine heat keeping it cooler.
I primarily just listened, as I could not debate, agree, or disagree with what he was telling me, including a suggestion to saw some part off the side of my stock cast intake. "most Mopar guys do this" I'm told, news to me I thought. Plus my brain had reached its capacity after talking to 700 outfitters, and 9,000 vendors selling stuff I didn't really need or want. I was hungry and thirsty but refused to purchase the food court offerings that looked like several times over re-fried fried food from two days ago and $3.00 cups of coffee that look & smell as if left over from the Farm Show, I really just wanted to leave.
Anyway, the guy said he goes to the Carlisle shows. Not sure why I'm writing this, other than to see if any of you guys know if this makes sense.
Interesting I thought as the cost of entry was only $14, but then they charged a $10 parking fee, at the same venue as the show.
