Anyone put a finish on their exhaust manifolds. I contacted a resto shop a while back and they told me they used auto trany fluid. I put it on and it looked nice for a year or so ( laying in my shop) then they started rusting. I don't know what would have happened if I would have run the motor. Any suggestions on a coating.

All heat temp paint's I have used start's to fade after a while. Even used ceramic paint it pealed off after a while. Think it is expansion and contraction. Not so much the heat. Even it lost it's color after awhile.

I used VHT on my headers. It has been on there 3 1/2+ years now and is still holding its color and overall appearance.

For a customers car I went to my local powder coat shop and they offered two shades of high temp coatings that take more heat than jet coat. I used Jet coat on mine no complaints but they closed shop in Phoenix. Oh his idea to do the heat riser with it

Those look good 69hemi. Yes Rain Man they are improving on the spray can product's. I must have gotten the cheap stuff.
I sure hope mine look that good.
But cast iron looks great. Follow the curing instructions or failure is likely. I’m expecting failure on mine eventually as I didn’t heat cure them due to impatience and the fact that my wife wasn’t keen on me putting exhaust manifolds in the oven. If I have to redo them eventually I will...

Can’t say I blame her for not wanting the manifolds in the kitchen oven. From my understanding, they can emit particles from the baking that can contaminate the oven and those particles later get into whatever is being cooked for dinner. Better to have them baked elsewhere or find an old oven to put in the garage (if you have room and will be curing many other items).

Yes not a good idea to put non eatable product's in the oven. Have put PVC pipe in their to flatten it. You can make a lot of stuff from it. Then bake a cake and it taste like plastic. Who me no I did not put any thing in the oven honey.
