Floor Pan wiring protective cover

So putting in new floor pans, old one is cut out and also had to remove the old wiring cover. The question is do I even need to put it back on the wiring cover that is. Of course I will need to get a new one but it does not seem to have a purpose. Will the carpet not fit correctly without it?

The purpose is to keep the wiring from chafing or getting otherwise damaged.

I don't think the carpet would fit right without it.

the purpose of the cover is to protect the wiring.the carpet would fit, but probably wouldn't look right.
