So, we just got this car about 2 mos ago and it is a 69 GTX convert. # matching drive train, all factory installed sheet metal, original convert top, original door panels, original ball joints, and tie rods......basically, everything is original with the exception of the seat covers, carpeting, idler arm, and one repaint in the original T3 Honey Bronze color. Even the H pipe was a factory part. The undercarriage was completely untouched! 44 years of grime so that gave us a fantastic starting point. Factory undercoated car, lots of inspection markings being found.

and the new undercoating pics with me showing how I applied it. I took a brush and lightly went over the original texture just to freshen up the factory undercoating. From age, the factory undercoating had started to turn brown from the once black color. The dark gray dip tank primer was also starting to get surface rust on it so that was cleaned up with a chemical solution and then the dark gray dip tank primer colore reapplied.

I used Rust-Mort and Evapo-rust in areas and then went over it with a self etching primer and then the correct dark gray dip primer.

I have a '69 RR with 50,000 original miles and where they masked off the shackles and other areas for the factory undercoating looks the same.

Great pics.

Interesting nice refresh. I know they all get done differently depending on who's shift it is and what factory. It appears the seat bolts were masked before undercoat. Here are a few of mine and don't let the fact that it had a silver repaint mess some of the colors up but as you can see the seat bolts and nuts got coated. This is a Lynch rd. car

Ive found that the St. Louis plant was known for masking off the holes for where the seat bolts went through. Also same for the areas on the uni body where the cradle would have supported the car while it was getting undercoated. Plenty more pics in the other thread I started called Bringing it Back to factory specs.
