Fuel Leaking From the Vent Tube

Hey guys,
I have fuel leaking out of the vent tube and when I take the gas cap off, it gushes out of the tank like it's pressurized. Is the tank not venting properly? Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks, Joe
 
Yeah they usually are attached to two hard line vent lines that run along the rear deck I was having that problem till I took a 3/8 rubber line and just connected them together at the rear of the tank

It sounds like pressure. You don't have a short exhaust system warming the tank up do you? I would take the two vent tubes loose and blow compressed air threw them

the short external vent line goes on the long internal vent in tank. the long external vent line goes to the short internal vent in tank. i personally had a problem with the long internal vent pipe. it had become loose and would lay below the filler neck. when tank was full both vents were below the gas and vapors would pressurize tank and push gas out of short vent tube making a mess. if i was not careful taking filler cap off i would get a lot of pressure releasing from tank.
 
Mac, how did you get into that tank :lol::lol::lol: I also understand some of those lines got reverse on the after market tanks. It's best to look before putting the neck on

I have been told that the repop fuel tanks have the lines switched inside the tank. Mine does it also when it is on a hill. One day when it is up on the lift I am going to cross the hoses.

that is correct.repop tanks lines are switched inside.i have researched that myself i put in a new gas tank and lines recently and found that to be true,you have to put long vent tube on the short inside tube and short vent tube on the long inside tank tube,that will stop the fuel leak.
 
the shorter tube that go's just above the rear end make sure that it is high enough that is won't siphon out. the curve on it should be as short as possible
 
the short exhaust & new tank are probably my issue. Have full 3" TTI exhaust now(haven't run it yet) now i'm going to have to take a look in the tank to see vent lines(Mac can you get in my tank for me--LOL)

ok so now I am confused. the manual has it the opposite way. with the short exterior on the short interior. SO I should connect my long in tank to the short? which is the one on the left exterior, closest to the pump?
 
Without looking in the tank to verify which is long and short its a crap shoot because some after market tanks have them reversed. should be long to short and short to long.
 
Drain the tank with a syphon hose then pull the filler neck. You can see the lines. On aftermarket more than likely they are switched. Boy some of these are old threads.
 
well... That will make the third time i ve done that. Well Saturday im going to put them in the order the manual shows. Add a non vented cap amd hopefully that fixes it. If not i will reverse the lines . Causw like you said. The tank could be reversed. its a crap shoot but hopefully this is it. I am also adding heat shield to the exterior of the tank. Around the back and sides Cant do anything but help. let you know
