I hope everyone is doing well. I have been a member of FBBO for nearly 10 years. I like all dem Mopars, but I especially love the Birds! I'm very glad to have found this site! I am truly blessed to own a 40,000 original mile, survivor, 1973, 400, 4 speed Road Runner that I purchased from the original owner. I was looking at various 73, 74 Road Runners on the Mopar Enthusiast Ring. I am always looking at these cars because they are like works of art to me. I opened up this post; This Is My Plymouth Roadrunner: I am the original owner, bought new in May 1973 at Russ Darrow Plymouth Appleton WI. 38,000 Original Miles, 400 CU Inch, 4 Speed with Hurst Pistol Grip, Sure-Grip Rear End. Never driven in the winter. John Evans - Oconto, Wisconsin Keep in mind that this Bird was not for sale and I was not looking to purchase either. I already had a nice driver and one being restored. I just wanted to say hello and compliment Mr. Evans on his AWESOME Road Runner. I Googled Mr. Evans's name and came up with around 10 possibles. The very first number I called, a nice lady answers and says "that's my husband, hold on." John comes to the phone and responds harshly, "Can I Help You!" We chatted a few minutes, and the conversation became friendlier. He shared with me that when he got home from Vietnam, he purchased a new 1972 Chevy Nova with a 6cyl. He soon realized that the 6 cylinder Nova wasn't going to cut it and traded it in on the 1973 Road Runner. I asked John if he would ever consider selling his Road Runner. His response was, " As a matter of fact, my Wife and I were just talking about this." "I am 72 years old and have had hip replacement surgery and I can't drive the 4 speed any longer." He asked that I call him back in a few weeks and he would discuss this with his Wife. Filled with enthusiasm, I called back and was told that I was the right guy for his Baby. He also shared with me that he was battling cancer and it had spread to his brain. I picked up the Road Runner November 1st, 2015. Mr Evans passed away March 9th 2016. Blessings are abundant and things do happen for a reason! Thank you John for serving our country and entrusting me with the care of your special Road Runner! May you rest in peace!
