Help with Wiper Motor

Hey guys, for some reason the windshield wiper motor only works in one speed. The motor is new and the entire dash/cluster was rebuilt. The guys that did the switches sent me another one and still only works in one speed. We can't get the washer pump to work either, so we sent away for another switch for that as well.

Any of you guys have any suggestions as to why it won't work on both high and low? As I said, everything is brand new; although that doesn't necessarily mean it works.

Any help appreciated.

Big John, if the ground were weak, wouldn't it not work at all?

to my vast electrical knowlage(from playing with electric trains)the slow speed takes less juice to run, so a weak ground would work, and the faster speed needs more juice, so a weak ground won't?

Like Dave, I'm not very good with electronics, but when I had only high speed with my wipers I finally found that the ballast resistor was bad. I replaced that and now I have both speeds and they go to park position when shut off.

It could return ground through a number of ways. It's the first thing you need to check with any electrical problem.

Is it a 2 speed or 3 speed?

Got it working properly now! Page 302 of the service manual showed me how to test the motor for all 3 functions - it passed w flying colors, so I turned my attention to the harness. Low and Behold - found a clipped wire for the ballast resistor! Easy enough to fix. Now, bring on the rain! Although for some reason, I bet she won't see much bad weather once John gets her home

Got the squirters working today too! Had to replace the brand new switch - it had literally fallen apart. Also, found out that the throat on the repro washer button was a hair too long. Once the button fully seated on the switch it would not depress far enough for the switch to make contact. Had to grind a little off of the button so that it would no longer be an issue. What a pain in the @ss! Had the dash panel back together multiple times before I ironed everything out.

That's something I need to do too. It's not a priority since I've never put any fluid in the reservoir! I did find that there doesn't seem to be any power going to the washer pump.

It's amazing how something so little can be such a pain in the butt. Took me about 2-1/2 hours to iron out the issues with that stupid washer switch. You know because you never think something brand new could be broken...
