keeping used cam shafts

is there any worth keeping an old cam shaft around? i have a MP 484 and a lunati voodoo cam shafts and they are just taking up space. would you chuck them or can they be used in someone elses project?
 
let me check the specs and see if they fall into what I'm doing. Which Lunati do you have Mac?
 
I used to break them and then tell everyone I had a 3/4 cam!

X2 my buddies and I would have the cam toss and inevitably someone would drop the cam and POP no more workable cam.
 
They are sellable. I've sold more than a few used cams. They are ok as long as they aren't worn out. Offer them for sale for a few bucks and let the new owners buy the lifters. Why throw out a decent part when you can make a few bucks and buy a tank (well, maybe part of a tank) of gas?

PS looks like a decent cam for a mildly hopped up 440 in a Valiant...
 
That Lunati has allot of lift but the duration is a little shorter so I wonder about clearance with a standard flattop with a thick Felpro gasket :popcorn: Mac whats the history of the two cams, something you used or gently used on Sundays by grandma
 
the 484 was the first cam i tried and was a mistake for a street motor with a 6 bbl intake. was kinda fun for the quick romp, but street driving was a dissappointment. low vacuum. the lunati was probably a better choice but i had other problems with the combo for that cam to work correctly. both cams were in the car 2 seasons each which is like 5 months. that's all the story i got.
 
In the overall scheme of things (new) cams are cheap. I can recall only once putting a used cam in anything, and it was not a rebuild, just a case of "I have this intake and cam on the shelf so why not throw them in this POS when I replace this worn-out timing chain?" I won't go so far as to say that I have a hard and fast rule that I would never throw one in a brand new engine, but I probably wouldn't unless it was a roller and I knew its history...and I used new lifters... New flat tappets are just too cheap to monkey around with someone else's retread. :cents:

As for selling them to someone that wants to roll the dice, why not? We all know what P.T. Barnum said... :lol:

I'm going to pass I settled on a new cam that Chris and I had discussed last week.I have slipped used ones in with no issues in the past, some body will get them. :popcorn:
