Is there a simplified version on how to properly set this linkage? How much travel...how to sync it up with the throttle...the 1:1 ratio they talk about?

There is no "proper" way to set this. That's the beauty of it, it's adjustable to each driver. You can have it downshift at part throttle, or wide open, or anywhere in between. The closer you have the slotted rod to the front of the car, the sooner it will downshift. My personal preference is to kick down as soon as possible. You just want to make sure that it does not interfere with wide open throttle.

"WOT is when you want to have it all in..."

Bell crank @ bell housing full travel which ensures the trans arm positioner is in its furthest travel...at which time your accelerator is in its full WOT position. 1 to 1 ratio
