wondering if the 69roadrunner i'm looking at is a factory 4 speed? it is a 4 spd car now with a 440. originaly it was a 383 car. i think the fender tag is wrong cause it says it is an automatic and does not match the vin number on the dash in front windshield.

There should be a D21 code for the 4 speed or D32 for an auto.

If the numbers don't match like that, i'd say there is a problem. You can look on the core support and also the drivers side trunk lip under the weatherstip for the VIN

Usually the 4 speed stuff from the factory is easy to spot under the car. It is pretty rare to find one converted that isn't hacked in some manner. I'd jack it up and have a look.

Another way to tell if it had a 4-speed is to look for the Z-Bar bracket on the frame rail. These were used to support one of the two ball studs that the shaft pivoted on.
