Hey Guys, I have a 1971 RR, with a 383 engine 4 speed. I need to buy a new oil dip stick for it. Just wanted to know if I also need to know the year of the engine? Or just the 383 size? Also, would you know where the year would be stamped? I was told years ago that it was a 1965... but I have not confirmed that. I believe the year is stamped somewhere on top of the engine block?

Summit racing. Did have to cut some metal off where it went into the engine block. Might have been the chrome that made it larger, so it did not fit the hole in the block. Have to turn the dip stick handle towards the motor to get an accurate reading on the oil in oil pan. :beep:

Just put one on my hemi with headers
What a pain that was
Got the one with the Kevlar insulated wrap
I took a piece of copper tubing and bent it to fit then used it for a template for the new one then I had to take a file to the stick to it with slide through the curves I put in it, even had to file the lettering down because it was raised from stamping and would drag but it works great now

I have a 383 with a hemi oil pan and not sure about the dip stick..I believe its the original but no way to be sure. And don't know how much oil in crankcase..I put in 6 quarts and one for filter...but I think I should be adding another quart. Dip stick shows full but you know how that is one side say full other is down. The pan doesn't have a stamped in no....so not sure but rebuild was to include the pan.

Above, I should have said all big blocks are the same except the hemi, they are also a pain without headers

Fill the motor with the right amount of oil run the motor. After a while pull dip stick and mark it where the oil is. About the best you can do. Yes, the outside of the stick is the right reading not the inbound side. At least for me is where it is at. On my 383. Just two cents.
