There is a very reasonably priced 71 GTX 440 w/ sixpack that is a lot of money for me that I want to be careful with. VIN check says only 73 made like that. He says all numbers match but no fender tag. Any advice?

I take it it is a V-code on the VIN. All you can do is check the #s on the block, trans, radiator support and trunk drip rail. If its one you like and not a rust bucket get it. If you want to get picky there are dates on the k-frame, carbs, wiper motor alternator, distributor and a bunch of other parts to see if they are the right year
