also have an issue with erratic speedo. Pulled dash cluster, replace speedo cable, removed and checked 32 teeth gear and all looks ok. Still bounces all over. Connected new cable to drill and speedo to check and all worked fine on the bench test.

Any ideas? Thanks

Since it passed the bench test I'd double-check the clocking on the speedometer gear housing at the transmission. Make sure you have it correctly clocked for the gear that you are using. Might not be making solid contact with the output shaft.
