If the pedal returns ok at high RPM shifts leave it. I understand if you get some one to hold the pedal down you can push a bunch of washers into the spring then let the pedal up and remove it. Never tried myself.
Well with the peddle fully extended the spring is stretched. When you press the peddle it compresses. So you'd want to shove a bunch of washers in then press the peddle. The clutch peddle opporated pretty fair but I get a little crink crink when pushing it in. After I first put it in I put a stronger return spring in it so the pedal returns
