I read the 8 ¾ section of the FSM and don't remember that many steps when my buddy changes mine back in the 80s What are the steps?

I remember when we replaced it my wheels had way too much play in and out so I had to have a shop adjust it.

If it says so in the FSM, then I'd do what that says to do.

AZ Desert,
There is an adjusting collar on one side to take the slop out if you still have tapered bearings and spacer in the center section.

I'm in the process of switching center sections this week. Do I need to buy any gaskets or seals if I am just swapping center sections?

As long as the axle seals are not currently leaking, and you do not damage them when you R and R the axles, the only gasket you will need is for the punkin. New gear lube and sure grip additive if so equipped.
