I purchased a 69 RR and one little thing that does not work as expected is the tachometer. It shows more RPM than the car is turning regardless of speed, at idle it is around 1500 to 2000 RPM when I keep it barely running and at 60 MPH it shows 5000.

Has anyone run into this. Is there anything else to check before sending unit for a rebuild? If a rebuild, does anyone have positive results with a particular company?

Thanks all.

The stock tach was known for being wildly inaccurate. I got a factory appearing tach from The Paddock back in '03 (before they closed up) which has modern internals. They might still be available from Year One.

I'm pretty sure the people in the link I gave him can upgrade the internals also.

Converting to electronic ignition apparently amplifies the problem...somebody upgrades them to work correctly but it's not coming to me at this point...I'm pretty sure we have covered this on here before...I'll just have to do some digging...
