Tearing down my 440

I got a lot done on my end this weekend with my engine.
I was able to get the engine down to the block, and even cabinet blasted quite a few parts.
The 440 is heading to a local engine shop on Tuesday to be hot tanked, and the cylinders honed (maybe bored). I'm thinking I'm going to need new pistons, but we'll see. I'm sticking with my original heads, and will have the shop check them and prep for pump gas. I want to stick to a mild cam, hopefully the one I have will work.

Check out some pics I took this weekend...

Nice.
I couldn't help but notice that you media blasted your water pump. Buy a new one. Cheap insurance. You also may have gotten media into the bearings. :cents:

I ordered a new pump and gaskets yesterday, but I will reuse the original housing.

Not sure on the cam, or if it's even worth a damn. I'd like to keep it stock, and if it's no good I'll be going with a mild cam.

My motor goals are basically to have a reliable driver that runs on unleaded fuel that I can step-on every now and then to keep em guessing! I'm working with a non-matching 440 block from 69, and using the motor's original heads (hopefully) and intake. I want to get on the road for now, and I'm sure my engine will get a lot of attention in the coming years after I figure everything out and get a feel for her. It's been pretty overwhelming doing the entire car in a few months. Like you guys always say, they're never really finished.

If you do need a new cam (which I am quite confident you will) a good choice is the Magnum Muscle cam by Comp. It is designed as a stock replacement to the factory HP cam but with the new design technologies ("fast ramp" design) which take advantages of the larger diameter Chrysler lifter.
The cam itself can be seen here:
http://www.compperformancegroupstores.c ... CAMhydFTmm
And the timing specs here:
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam- ... d=720&sb=2
If not for the Bob Karakashian (Mr. Six Pack) cam I would probably run this one in my car for the Pure Stock setup I am building.

That's right, I'm 6'7" 210 lbs.
I met Harold (DropTop), and he's a big ol' boy too.

Before I started to lose some weight, I was at 335 lbs. 5'10' and I had plenty of room sitting in my car behind the wheel! It's even better now that I'm 50 lbs. lighter! :lmao: And when I met Harold at Carlisle last year, I actually felt small! :jester:

I wear 16 know how you feel

By the way stock 440s when lovingly put together run real well, so no disappointments there.

6'6" and size 15 here. 215-235 depending on how much I exercise and how close I watch the trash foods.

Unless that is an OEM HP engine, toss the cam. Factory HP is the smallest I would run and even that is pushing it for a teardown.

I talked to my dad last night (he gave me the car and engine). He told me it is an aftermarket hi-performance cam, but he doesn't remember the size. I'm taking the block and everything I have (heads, intake, rockers, etc.) to an engine shop today.
