what is the correct shifter for a bench seat?

this shifter is too close to my leg, but looking at the patina, I assume it's original. I prefer one that bends right and comes up higher...any opinions?

I don't remember an offset on the bench seat shifter. If it's a '69 it should have a flat on each side just below the shift knob that says HURST.

that it does...but I'm a big guy and it kind of digs into my thigh at 2nd/4th

that looks like the correct shifter. I have never tried to change the shaft on a mopar shifter but most have a couple bolts and can put on whatever you want or find.

If your shifter is the original one it won't have bolts holding handle in it has a shim on the side and need a .010 feeler gauge to get it out.

If bolts are in it is a 1971 and up I think is when they started to bolt them in.

Not much you can do to get it over and not mess up the shifter handle.

That shifter handle is the one with the shims along the sides and if yours is the shimmed type that holds the handle in it would work but it will be a back breaker as it is an A-body handle and short have to bend over to shift.

I have had them in my A-body cars and even then you have to bend a little to shift.

That is the bayonet style or stab style you want but in a b-body. Mine having a console I cant compare them

I put one in my B3 '69 RR with a bench back in the early eighties. I liked it.

The 1970 shifter mechanism is different as well as the shift handle. if you use the 69 shifter the 70 pistol grip will hit the dash. I've seen a couple guys do it so it will work if you can live with that.
