Title says it all. What is everybody using in our engines? I know Lucas has a muscle car oil that supposedly has more zinc for the flat tappet engines but of course everybody says theirs is the best. Conventional vs Synthetic, you get the idea. Comp cams also recommends using their break in additive at every oil change so what's your opinions on that as well.

When they first stared removing the zinc and phosphorus I bought a bunch of red bottled STP which is high in the stuff so I substitute any good brand of 10-30 with a bottle of STP its less than a half a quart

We should be hearing about Amsoil and Lucas soon. There are lot's of ways to go but the diesel oils have reduced zinc and phosphorus now.

Mobile one is what I am using in my motor. Like Shell Rotella for my diesel truck's and have used the straight 30 in my quad runner. But my race car buddy's say Mobile one is the way to go. Any thing but Quaker State. Well hope this help's. Just remember some oil is better than none when It low on the road till you can get the right type and change the oil. I always have a couple of quart's in my vehicle of what I use. Russ. :blah:

I've been buying the Brad Penn 20W50 lately...

Always like to throw in a bottle of the Lucas ZDDP additive on my engines with flat tappets... I don't worry about it on the rollers.

Back in the day...

During the 1950s and 60s and 70s, API set Zinc recommendations at 1000-1200ppm, e.g., API SC, SD, SE

Currently, Shell Rotella T Triple 10W-30 still has a Muscle Car era dose of Zinc at 1225ppm. IMO, additizing past that is unnecessary.

August 2016 Rotella 10W-30 test: http://pqiadata.org/ShellRotellaT10W30.html

However, if I were going to lose sleep that Shell might change the Zinc level without warning, I'd simply double check the Zinc by sending it off for my own oil analysis. This because I'm not a huge proponent of using aftermarket oil additives.

New Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 API CK-4

Here's a fresh off the press oil analysis of Shell Rotella T5 10W-30. It's the latest API service classification (CK-4) and still has a healthy dose of ZDDP.
