I have a 69 RR with P&P 452 88cc heads. Looking for a winter project, has anyone tried/run Indy EZ, Trick Flow C00 or Edelbrock Performer RPM heads? Any other mfg you would recommend? My 440 has .505 lift, 510 HP, 580 ft-lb, 4 speed

Having run all three, the Trick Flow is by far the most refined of the bunch. It will however raise your present compression ratio one full point. And it is critical that you check the valve guide clearance on the Trick Flow heads as I've found them to be too tight. I've had to hone the guides on every Trick Flow head I've had in the shop. They all need to be prepared by a good cylinder head shop before being used.

Do you think -10cc will increase the compression one full point? I will have whatever head I buy checked before installing

The compression ratio is a pretty simple calculation which I did before I posted my reply. So, I don't think so, I know so.

I did the Edelbrock E-Street heads on my Valiant. They have an 84cc which is close to stock and a 75cc which I used with a thin gasket to pick up more than 1 compression point I started with a low compression 440 so I'm around 9.8 to 1

A suggestion with what I’ve had decent luck with. Bargain 440 Source heads with a cnc workover by KG Engines in Kansas, OH. KG has a display at almost all MOPAR events I’ve attended and are the Real (!) deal!:beep:

Call Bruce Toth google the name if you need to! I had a set of stealth heads and they had to be clearenced for the oush rods and then i overheated once and they warped enough to cause exhaust gasses in the coolant. Bruces heads come already ported and clearenced etc for the same price shipped! Toth perfornance in Penn call him dont waste your money on stealths trick flows would be the next best.

Well Trick Flow 240 heads have been on for a while. I can feel more torque and that is a good thing but it seems like I now have more lifter noise than I am happy with. Has anyone else found that alum heads promote more lifter noise? I did find a good push rod supplier through Bel Engines in Edmonton, Smith Bros out of Richmond OR.

Issues: ARP studs are too long on the bottom row as the Hooker Comp header flange does not have enough clearance, had to use bolts. Spark plugs must be installed before headers are installed and headers must be loosened/pulled back if plugs are changed.

Exactly what kind of cam are you running and how did you set the lash or preload. I ask this because, if you set the lash or preload cold, with an aluminum head you need to set those .006" tighter. If you have a solid litfer cam that wants .016" lash hot, the cold lash should be .010". As the engine warms up the aluminum head swells and lifts the rocker shaft away from the camshaft, thereby increasing the lash.

Just for the heck of it I always warm a motor to running temp. then set my valve lash weather cast Iron or aluminum. Got in to this practice year's ago the old mechanic My friend and I knew when we where drag racing told us a bunch of trick's. We swapped a Chevy truck positive track rear end one ton into our duster got the drive shaft and had the yoke cut off the duster drive shaft and swapped them so the bearing would work for the out put on the transmission. Fla. Drive line did the work for us on the yoke swap and balanced it for us.

So I take it that you had cast Iron head's. Really can't believe that the aluminum head's would be that noisy. What Kind of noise sound do you here. Is it a rattle sound. Tapping sound. Or what. The valve taping the seat in noticeable in some head's but not that loud. Are you sure you don't have a gasket leak of some kind. Or maybe it is in the header's making the noise. Valve's May be set to tight and need more lash. Let us know what you find out. Russ.

Found one soft lifter and replaced it with a matching Comp cam lifter, all is good. I had installed a Hughes Engines 1 Piece Single Plane Valley Cover and doing this does not allow you to watch the lifter action or easily remove the cover. With the cast heads you can use a magnet and recover any lifter through the push rod opening in the head and inspect/replace it. Anyway just making excuses for me not having a good feel for a soft lifter.
Car runs stronger and does have a different sound than with the cast heads. Overall happy with the head replacement but I should ask Trick Flow why they can't machine enough room to recover a lifter through the push rod opening in the head so you don't have to go through the BS I did.
