engine looks good in there!

what type of lifters in there? did the builder use any of the molybnenum (spelling?) breakin lube ? that stuff will clog up the filter so not a bad idea to change that out sooner.

I'd put 1-or 2 hundred on it, all you did was break in the cam and there are other parts finding their way into place.

:steering:SWEET Tom. Had one buddy that every time he got a new car drove the hell out of it. He claimed that if you baby it. It will brake when you get on it because the top end is not broke in for higher RPM. I on the other hand did what was recommended by the dealer ship. Then drove the hell out of it.

I cracked the oil pan on the first test drive, so flushed out all the cam break-in goo at 1/2 mile! Did put the heavier break in oil again though for 500 miles. the guy who built it recommended "dont kill it, but dont baby it either". slight Hills and inclines are also a good during the break-in spell for your rings.

Also, a mate of mine that worked in the engineering department at Ford for 20 years (but forever a mopar nut!) always said that the harder you drive em, the better they'll be for it. Which funnily enough is exactly what he did the day he drove his 67 sport fury home. Said "if theres anything wrong with it, I wanna know straight away".

I’ve heard the old “break it in like you’re gonna run it”.

I personally believe in moderate break in with as continuous as possible rpm variation to seat rings on acceleration AND deceleration. Occasional full throttle is good for the soul after all the work and money! Again! Moderation! :beep:

Even the new Demon is limited for the first 500 miles then the dealership puts the big tune to it. Got a buddy going through that right now.

Sounds like you on your way on the brake in. Yea after the first 100 would take up the RPM for a short while and like every on said then run through it normally. Bob said up hill that also would help with loading it up on the bottom end. Have FUN can't wait till this car is at that point. Latter :beep:

So Far 350 miles, will change oil and filter at 500, will be using 5 QT'S Valvoline 20/50 high Zinc . been Very careful up and down with RPMs and so far 65 mph( no long time / high way). at the most. Engine runs at just a little below the 1/2 way mark (85 degree day) on temp gage, using a 180 thermostat .
My plan will be to have broke in enough to drive to Carlisle in July for the 50th anniversary of the Roadrunner That's a 6 1/2 Hour drive for it from Mass..

Good time to shake the bugs out before the trip, usually a few will pop up.

Hope every thing stay's smooth. When you change the oil and filter. Run the oil through a tea strainer to see what you have. Then dump the oil filter through it. Slap the filter on a peace of paper after you drain it good. If no metal your home free. Some fine particles will show up on first oil change should not be to much though. Also no big chunk's. Happy driving their. Buddy.
