Car wouldn't start. Key or anything it wouldn't start or turn over. I changed the alternator to a new one and put a new fusible link. I took the old fusible link off and it was in bad shape. I pulled the old fusible link out and broke the bulkhead outside piece.

Now when I put the positive cable on the starter kicks in and the starter will not stop turning.

Any suggestions?

Solenoid??
I had a Van a long time ago with a seperate starter and solenoid. Sometimes it wouldn't turn at all and one time the starter stuck on until it burned out the starter motor. (Of course, that time my wife was had it in the parking lot at the store.) I replaced the soleniod three times in that van.

did you fix the bulk head connector and wires from the inside of bulk ?

if i remember the picture you posted it was melted bad and needed replaced and wires repaired ?

You broke the bulkhead connector for the engine side of the wiring harness at the firewall? What did you do to repair this? What condition was/is the bulkhead connector in? That fusible link runs from the starter relay to the bulkhead connector. Check all of that including your connections at the relay. Your problem is probably right there between the relay and the bulkhead connector since you're energizing the starter by just connecting the battery terminal.

get new male ends for the interior side of the harness and the correct crimp tool not the butt connector pliers.

Where is the best place to get ends and crimp tool? I have a really good crimp tool I use for the race car.

Hey Russ, If the starter is running when you hook up the battery, you have a short or bad ignition switch. I've attached the roadrunner wiring diagram(s) I would print them out, tape them together and get out the multi-meter. I know this is a 70 diagram, but the 68-70 are very similar.

Thanks Dan. Ive been busy at work, took a vacation, playing some guitar gigs so no I havent. I am going to get started eithter this evening or in the morning.

So the starter issue was the starter relay on the firewall. Car turns over as it should but still not firing. I have a new electronic box and I'm gonna. Try that. Coil is good.

Anything else besides box that might be a quick check?
