I had an interesting find today concerning this same part on the driver side. The bottom of the door latch rod had a weld that prevented the bottom of the rod from coming off. I removed the whole latch assembly and glass track because I just could not figure our why the rod would not disengage...

The rod that connects my door handle to the release mechanism came off today. For the life of me, I cannot get that funky little clip back on. I have tried vice grips, needle nose pliers, custom made screwdrivers that I grinded just for this purpose, but that little bastard will not go back on...
