I was looking around and don't see a replacement 383 motor. I looked on line and in classic industries. All I found was a 440 as well as the 360. Yes some stroker motor's 408 and what have you. Why is the 383 not made any more. Or where could you find one. Russ.

If something where to happen to my 383 and it was beyond repair then would consider putting a 440 in it. Knowing it was not the motor that came in the car. But to keep the car alive in the future. Thank you quickbird. That would be a thought or would pound the net in a search. Would wonder how much it would take to swap over to a different motor. I hope I never have to do this and can keep the type of motor that came in the car. :thumbsup2:

Yep 69hemibeep seen a few on E bay. Craigslist is not my favorite surf place. It is kind of hard to search I think. Maybe because I don't use it enough. Russ. :beep:

The same guy who's selling the 69 Bench seat is selling this 383HP Block. Casting date 3/6/69. $350 + the ride. He didn't respond to the request for the VIN

You would need that piece to weld it back into place. Makes you think what would cause that piece to be broken in the first place. Yes you can weld cast iron. Their is a new rod sold for Tig welding Cast Iron. You have to know how to weld cast iron. It has to be heated up before welding and no air can blow on it while welding then let cool slow and have to lightly tap that area during cooling. It takes a while. Mr Tig has a video on this method. He dose work for Jay Leno. Had a block a connecting rod broke and punched a hole through the side of the block. This older guy said bring it to me and he welded a piece of steel plate on that area. It held and the motor worked just fine. Russ. :beep:

If you are looking for a good 383, I have a good candidate for rebuild. Stock bore long block from 1969.

Well the only real way to weld cast is to heat it till it’s red hot and keep it hot while you weld it you really need to know what you’re doing I mean you could half way do it but it won’t be right

Thank you Roscoe Thug. I was just looking around to see how available these still where. Mine was rebuilt before I bought it. It is 30 over bored. Which is normal for a motor that old. I still have to crack it open and check every thing. Hope all I have to do is reseal and gasket it. New water pump and Oil pump. Check the gear for the distributor. New timing chain and sprocket's. Check the cam as well as lifter's. Well look it all over and test my valve springs and guides. Russ.

I agree with you Dmartin. Not for the amateur welder or beginner. I have welded a lot of pop metal and think I was tough by the best of the best. Yes has to be hot but not to the point it is melting. Hot enough to open the pores in the metal. Tig welding is the best way to go but the metal needs to be very clean. Use stainless steel wire brush not a steel brush. Use acetone to clean the metal well. They have a new rod a guy has put out that is not silica based filler rod. I bought some to do the bell housing has a small crack at the top. If you check out Mr Tig. on the web he is very good J Leno uses him at his shop when he need's the best to fix some thing. They welded up a motor case on an expensive car and it turned out fine. Just my thought's and what I have done over the year's. Russ.
