The 383 in my 68 has this stamped on the block: E 383 then below that 7 8 2
nothing else. No HP markings. Does that mean it's not an original RR engine?
The E indicates its out of a 69 if I am decoding correctly.
Appreciate any comments, thanks RRDon

7 8 2 would be the build date ID 7th month 5th day 2nd off the line that day. July 5th most likely 1969.

and yes it means it is not an HP motor. Could be a warranty replacement motor? Have you check the sequence # on the oil pan section rear of the block? Are there any other symbols on the id pad?

Looks like this

decodes like this PT = Trenton NJ plant, P =premium fuel, 2345 = born(cast) on date Friday, December 29, 1967 which would be right for a 68 383 most blocks were cast then put on a shelve to be built at a later date. If you can or ever take your oil pan off you can see this sequence #

AZ Desert,
I have a question. On the A/C cars rated 5 horse power less and painted a different color were they considered HP and stamped HP?

Seeing how we are talking about number's mine is stamped RM3H96117 then look's like a degree mark and 30 after that. Dose this mean that it is bored 30 over. Stamped down by oil pan passenger side. Wish could help RRDon out but still learning my self just know it is a 383.
