AZ Desert,
Depending on the green bearings you may have to remove the center plug from the center section. I would check with Dr. Diff on that.

I'm not sure why you didn't put it back together after you got the parts out? I had custom axles made for the narrowed housing so no interference on mine.
Well I just wanted to make this a easier if down the road if for some reason I need to pull axles again. If every time those Thrust Pins fall out. I just talk to a Guy that does Diff work I had him 15 years ago set up another 489 case and is know for his excellent work . in the next town over and he said if you are getting the next generation green bearing it is ok to leave Thrust Block in just do not put Trust Pins back in

I left the button in my 741 8 3/4 when putting the green bearing's in. It was suggested to have it in their. But every thing bolted up good. Putting that retainer sleeve on is a bitch. Had a piece of pipe on the axle and pressed the sleeve on and lacked about a quarter of an inch so hit the press on top with a sledge hammer to move it on down. Should have heated it up like my tractor axle and slap it down with the pipe. That works better. Good luck Tom RR. Hope you get her done soon so you can get back on the road.

They probably are different between the 741 and the 489's. Thanks for the info. When I get that 489 in that is what I will do. Good luck and know you will like the green bearing's. No more leaking seal's.

Don't need to do any thing. Did you get the new plates with them. Also did you get the crush ring that holds them to the axel. I cant remember if their was an O ring on the inside or out where your plate goes. Bearing retaining plate's that replaced your old one's. You would have gotten every thing in the kit I did. Hope they work out well for you. Russ.
