Well.... I guess this is a good time to bring it up in...

We've got 104 members as I write this. 30 or so have never posted and of that 30, a significant number haven't been around since the day they signed up. Its pretty much the same at most forums from what I understand. To give a recent example, 69Belvee joined at 9:30 on Monday and the last time he was back was 11:30 the same day.

I've done it myself, joined and looked around and either never found anything interesting or didn't like the "vibe" going on with the members. We may not be what some people are looking for and I think we all accept that. The direction of the board has been good... It took the great "core" group from the .org site and expanded it a bit and let it roll a little more free.

That said, I think its time for another "purge". I can delete the members that haven't ever posted and haven't been back to visit since they joined. I did it once before at the beginning of the year. Nobody is gonna be banned... They can rejoin if they want. I just see that this board should have active members even if it does cut down our numbers.

What do you guys think?

For the most part I agree with you John. Maybe there should be a period of time given before you do the "purge." It could be that when people join, besides the things you mentioned, there could other factors that keep people from spending the time here that most of the active menbers spend. I do have an example. When 68rrunner joined he mentioned that a current member urged him to join. Well, that was me. He has always had a very busy family, and personnal life. Just this past week he has been dealing with problems his elderly parents are having. So the last thing he's been able to do is spend time with things like this. That of course is the not case with everyone, but there could be any number of reasons why they don't come back right away. So that's why I would say a certain time period be given,( say, 1 or 2 months,) for new members to start posting before anything is done. Let's face it, it may take new members a while to join in on some of the banter that we've had going on here lately. We need to give them some time to do that. IMHO

I'm not going to cut anyone off without giving them a chance to post.

I have a lot of options for this in my admin screen. I can do it by number of posts and/or since their last visit.

If I were to do this now, I would say anyone with zero posts that hasn't visited the site since Feb 1st would be deleted.

i think the more members the better....people browsing look at the # of members and say wow looks like a big membership and it must be great and it is a great bunch of guys.......does it slow down or hurt the website if there are more members?....like roadcuda says some people are real busy with other things besides the internet....some people look and dont post at all...just looking for information.....big john....what ever you think

Just as a FYI to you guys, I delete a bunch of spam members everyday. This show up as "inactive" because they haven't responded to our registration email.

Here's this morning's list. Pretty much all are Russians or from some eastern European country. They sign up to look for any email addys or stuff like that. I delete them and ban the IP's of any that I reconize as repeat customers.

Thanks for sharing that John. That is interesting to know. That's the behind the scenes stuff that most of us never know about. And it explains why you want to purge these things.

OK.. Its done.. That wasn't too painful... was it?

I'm going to start doing this on a monthly basis. It should keep the membership about the same level it is now.

Funny I just posted this... I had a spammer get through and posted some porn in the pits.

I just did my first official ban of an active member and his IP address.

That just proves that these idiots will find a way to get into whatever site they want. It's a real shame that they can't use their computer talents to do something good on them.
