Can anyone tell me what these numbers indicate:

BLOCK CASTING NUMBER- 3614230-4

DATE STAMP BY THE STARTER- 17782 A

ENGINE ID#, RH ABOVE OIL PAN- 2C208217

CASTING DATE, RH MIDDLE OF BLOCK ABOVE OIL PAN- " D N "

My understanding is that this is a 400CID motor built in 1972 at the Jefferson, Michigan plant.

The sequential VIN# is 208217

I do NOT know what the " D N " designates nor the date stamping by the starter.

Finally finished .................

Pictures attached.

Thank you in advance,
LG,

D- Dayturn
N-Night turn shift

Sounds GOOD to me, BUT both the D and the N casted in the block.

I thought the stamped number by the starter was suppose to be the date the motor was put together.

Thanks for the input..............

Mike

yes the D and N are both cast, but it loos to me that there is an arrow pointing to the D, which means your block was made on Daylight.

You are 100% CORRECT. I need to pay MORE attention to detail....................LOLengine number- lower left bottom- 808.jpg

Can you tell me what the STAMP NUMBERS by the starter reveal. I'm pretty sure it is suppose to be the date, hence, stamped and not a casting number. I figure the " A " stood for day shift................

Thanks again for all the help,
