My convertible is getting VERY close!!!

I went to the body shop today to deliver some parts and snap some pics. It’s VERY close to coming home, after some small touch-ups, one more round of buffing, and the flat V21 stripes. The thing looks amazing! Absolutely perfect and shines like glass! I can’t believe what they were able to do with this thing, as it was about as bad is it could’ve been when I delivered it to them (as you all know).

Now it has to be one of the straightest, best looking 69 RR verts around in terms of body and paint. It’s going to be difficult to restore everything on the rest of the car up to the level of the body and paint, that’s for sure. I have my work cut out for me...

They put A LOT of time into the deck-lid. Those lids are tough to find, and this one was really rough, but it’s the best I could find. They worked miracles between the deck-lid and deck-filler panel. They basically fabricated a new deck-filler panel. Too bad AMD doesn't repop both the deck-lid and filler panel (for verts).

He said that new AMD hood was just about perfect right out of the box, and one of the easiest pieces he’s worked with if anyone is considering going with one.

I started a thread over on parts too, just to double-dip the stuff I put on here.

Better get in line now. I asked him about yours, and he said he could get it into the shop in about 1 year, and it will take about 9 months to finish the body and paint. That's plenty of time to fund it!

That may be a bit too optimistic. But I am going to try!

I haven't really prepped parts the way I should have as the body and paint cost me a pretty penny. This project has pretty much dominated my finances for the past three due the some poor choices early on, which led me losing about $10k.
The goal is to get it home and do what I can with the parts I have (I do have quite a bit of new parts to install). I will use my tax return in the spring to fund as much as I can too, but it won't be enough to get everything.

As a school principal, I get a good chunk of time off annually, but during the school year I can't get much done due to excessive hours, family and kids, life. I usually take July off, so I should be able to get pretty far during that month if I set myself up right before then.

There is just so much to do. I need a lot of parts, items restored, refinished, plated, etc..

Add this to the fact that I've never restored a car before, and the first time you do something always takes about 5 times longer than it would if you were experienced.

If it's on the road for April of 2014 I would be very happy. :yesnod:

Hey, I made the trip from Detroit to Indiana for those seats I got from your buddy, it's not so bad!

Actually they had a guy from Kansas that was supposed to bring them a car, but he backed out.

I don't know that there are too many guys nationally, let alone locally that can do what they do at their price. I hit the geographic lottery to live only 20 miles from these guys that specialize in b-body 69 convertibles. I would have never found them had I not contacted Mike (Dr Mopar) via email when I saw that he owned multiple 69 RR verts on the Michigan Mopar Club website. What a blessing that shot in the dark turned out to be! He introduced me to them, as they have done several verts for him and his buddies.

Body shops won't touch these cars because they take up too much space, take too long, and don't bring in a lot of profit. Most local guys don't specialize in b-bodies, especially not convertibles.

If you were serious about them doing it, I would do everything I could to help you out. I would take pics and run parts if you needed. Roseville Moparts, Mancini's, and Inline Tube are all within 30 miles of me (nice to be in the Motor City). You would obviously need to bring the car up with all the metal and pick it up when finished. If they need a big/major part, they call you and you buy it online, then have it shipped directly to them. I only live 20 miles from their shop, but I still had all the metal and parts shipped directly to them so I didn't have to run there back and forth. I've probably only been to their shop about 5 times during my restoration.

Funny story..
They did a 69 Super Bee for a guy, and then the same guy brought them a 69 1/2 A12 car only a couple months later. They laughed at him and asked why he was bringing them another car before he even assembled the first car they did. He replied that he can reassemble the car whenever, but he was afraid that they may quit doing body/paint on these old Mopars and he didn't want to risk it . I thought that was classic, but it also said something about their work. :yesnod:
