Yes it was a two night a week schooling. While I was working. The three year's I spent could have been an engineering course. That is the way it felt. I covered all kinds of electrical application's even A/C and heat. My book is an engineering hand book. National electrical code cover's every thing. You have Hydro plant. Steam plant's. Also worked on Nuclear plant. Had a lot of Engineering firms try to get me to go to work for them but liked building. I got to travel every where. I was in charge of over 3 hundred men on one job. I thought I was a baby sitter most of the time. Russ.

if you wire brush the wire or scotch bright it the solder will stick but the wire in the casing is still oxidized and only a few wire will carry the current not all of them so what will happen those wires that are carrying the current will get hot . in the voltage system if only a few wires are carrying the current the regulator is not seeing the right voltage so that why you see the over charging or under charging .with the one wire system it is only the battery 12 volts going thru the system the rest of the system only uses the 12 volts and does not go back to the battery like the voltage regulator does .
now if you have a bad connection ( short ) you will see that on the voltage gage then you have to find it by unplugging each fuse and finding the circuit and pin pointing where the short is or the fuse will blow and that will tell you as well.
or you can put all new wiring in the car and it will work as good as new

Call me lucky or not. The last runner I did needed a rear car harness so I ordered from Yearone installed it and when I connected the battery I believe it was the brake and reverse lights would come on. Upon closer inspection I found the connector pins were the mirror position they should have been. This has nothing to do with the topic but I figured Id run my post count up LOL
