I have a hankering to put the original steering wheel on the car that I took off back in the 1990s. I pulled it out of storage today. I remember it being cracked, but its pretty bad. I looked at the OEM reproductions
seems like the only color that's unavailable is the saddle tan. I was thinking of repairing this one and shooting some saddle tan paint on it. Has anyone restored their wheel ? What did you use ? Years ago I filled cracks
on a wheel with POR 15 putty, looked good until the putty shrank. It seems like an epoxy would be the way to go on a plastic wheel.

I used PC7 puddy sanded primed and painted. I put it away in a hot garage and it still looks good 10 years later. The OER wheel I put on the car at the same time developed a fine crack 4 years later and that's in an air conditioned garage with very little use.

I have done a lot of reading on PC7 and I think that's what I'm going with.

My Friend Pete has an excellent 3 part series on restoring a steering wheel. They are a must watch if you are restoring one yourself.

I did watch his three part video. What he said about the hobby is unfortunately spot on. People aren't restoring cars like they were.

The trouble with restoring a car is you have to do it for the Love of the car, if you think your taking it back to the way it rolled in your driveway when it was new, you will never do it cost effective. Today’s labour rates for restoration work is nuts. Unless you are capable of doing everything you will be 2 or 3 times over what the car is worth
