I installed a shroud with an electric fan. It was 108 degrees F here yesterday, and this is as high as my gauge got. It was driven and then left to idle. Too high????
Mine was running at around 180-190. But after replacing a cracked head it gets around 200 and 210. I would like to get the temp. back down to at least 180 driving and 200 in stopped traffic. Putting new 440 source heads on now and a new Holley brawler carburetor. Hope this solves my temp. problem.
I changed to an 18-inch mechanical flex fan, Milodon high-flow water pump, 160 high-flow thermostat, and a stock-style shroud. I had to trim the shroud a bit to get it to fit on my aluminum radiator, but it has tons of airflow now and runs very cool.
Glad you got it too cool down. After junking the cast Iron heads and putting the 440-source aluminum heads on my 383 made a big difference. Had a high flow thermostat also and new radiator but the difference came in with putting heads on. Mild build with Half dome pistons and mild cam. Holley four barrel. Going to car shows and sit in traffic it does get a little warm but cools down once I get rolling again. Have fun and wish all the best of luck. Russ.
