Timing numbers for a 383 super commando?

Remove all plugs, get a thin long shank screwdriver and set the #1 cylinder at TDC. See where the timing mark is. Make sure your on the compression stroke for #1. That will at least tell you if the something didn't happen to the plate and it's representing the correct crank/cam timing. I did the put it where it runs w/o pinging once with my previous '69 and was WAY too lean. I burned a piston. I'd really use the marks if it is mostly stock. If not all bets are off. Good luck! It sounds like you've got somewhat of a handle, but I'd still want something to depend on with the light so you can change it if needed.

34 total for stock heads. I like to run 10 initial, but some guys like to run way up in the teens for that. I run ported vacuum.
