I have a 69 that is a street/strip car but mainly street and I'm looking to replace my 915 cast iron heads for lighter, better flowing aluminum heads. I'm not looking for max wedge ported race heads just heads that will do the job out of the box. There are several options for us Mopar guys as opposed to just a few years back. Please chime in and let me know which big block aluminum head you chose and why you chose it.

I personally am using the indy little ez head but I am pushing the horsepower quite a bit. coyote has the 440 source stealth heads that look pretty good so far for a much better price.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. Coyote is a member on the site. He has a set of the 440 source aluminum heads he is putting on his 440. We are still getting everything hooked up so haven't started it yet to answer your question if it is good.

I have the Edelbrock Performer Rpm heads with the 84cc(82.4 after milling) bought the correct springs for the cam, rather then using the ones that came with the heads. Getting 585hp and 620 lbs of torque on pump gas. have the intake ports match the heads also.

The BEST aluminum heads in my opinion are the NEW Trick Flow Specialties heads. For $2K you get assembled heads that are cnc'd and flow 340 @ .600. They are 2nd to none in my opinion. Buy them and be done. And expect near 600hp and near 600 torque on a 440.

I noticed 440 Source heads list their heads as having blind exhaust bolt holes which I think is a great non performance feature. Do any or all the aforementioned heads have this?

factory heads have some of the bolts extend into the water jacket. these can leak etc. problem with blind holes is that header bolts sometimes are too long and bottom out before are tight

Not that it is a deal breaker either way but is 440 Source the only blind hole aftermarket head?

I heard the Trick Flow heads were the way to go, also, from several sources not from this site.

All the aftermarket aluminum heads have blind header bolt holes. My Dad said, "You have to be smarter than your cylinder heads and the header bolts." The best aftermarket buy on cylinder heads are the CNC Trick Flow offerings. Trick Flow is soon to release a 270cc Max Wedge head, which the OP has already said he isn't in the market for.

There are no mass produced aftermarket cylinder heads that should be installed OOTB, even if they claim they can be. Not even Trick Flow. Many people install aftermarket heads right OOTB but I build engines for a living and would never gamble with a customers engine. They all should be disassembled, cleaned and inspected. Though the Trick Flow is the best, I have found their valve to guide clearances a little tight for my liking and aluminum shavings in the ports. The Stealths desperately need prep involving valve job, port clean up, resurfacing, lock replacement and often (in my experience) the valve stems are scarred during the factory assembly and some valves need replacement. Edelbrock? They have the greatest selection of combustion chamber sizes, 88cc, 84cc and 75cc. The ones I have worked with also have some tight valve guides and tight heli-coils in the rocker arm stands. They need a valve job and general prep like the Stealths.

I have my head choices narrowed down to 3 and I have to admit the Trick Flow heads are impressive., and expensive.
My list include: Trick Flow 240, Edelbrock E-Street, and 440 Source Stealth. I like the straight plugs with the 440 Source, the flow with the Trick Flow, and the combustion chamber cc with the Edelbrock E-Street.

The CNC Trick Flow heads are by far the best right now for both performance and value. No other non-max wedge heads
flow as much. Estimates by noted engine builders are up to 50 hp over other name brand OOTB heads and only $2k per
pair complete. Stock port locations. New matching intake manifolds available also. 10.5-1 440's 0.030 over with Trick Flow's
.300/.600 hydraulic roller camshaft are making 620 hp on pump gas. Smaller cams (example: .540 lift) make an easy 550+ hp.

I went with the 440 source heads primarily for price (mucho less than Edelbrock's) before Trick Flow's came out. I've had decent luck with the sbc Trick Flows on some of my Brand "C" engines. MOPAR swap meet at the state fairgrounds had KG Engines there with heads they had cnc ported. I talked with the machinist that does them. IMO for real NOT a BS'er! My 440 source heads are now in Kansas, OH being done. A thou for 600hp on street 440. From the looks of them serious value!

440 Source CNC Stealth heads are very good but not quite as good as the OOTB CNC Trick Flow PowerPort 240 heads.

I wanted to go with the 440 Source CNC Stealth heads, but seeing that I'm not sure yet. Is that making a big difference? Numbers are pretty close though. Just wondering because I want to be sure before I ordered something... Don't want to miss my prep engine.

I guess that with less airflow you will not reach the same power...
