I have to admit the Trick Flow heads are impressive, and expensive.
Keep in mind that the Trick Flows come already CNC ported and to do that to the E-Streets or the 440 Source heads it actually
makes them cost more than the Trick Flows. Even when CNC'd they cannot equal the flow numbers generated by the Trick Flows.

Question; With a hydraulic flat tappet cam under .500 lift will performance actually suffer due to a loss of air velocity with these bigger port heads? I'm looking at only a head swap and not a blueprint build so to speak. Also, when changing from factory cast heads to most of the high flow aluminum heads one must factor in the cost of adjustable rocker arms or at a minimum custom push rods and this really elevates the cost when buying quality products. This would be a huge hidden fee that I must factor in. From what I've read so far the purchase of adjustable rockers can be avoided with the 440Source Stealth heads if not milling them down a great amount.

Yes I saw the lower priced rockers with mixed reviews and I wouldn't be comfortable with anything other than Mancini, Comp, Isky, or Harland Sharp.

I went with Aeroflow heads, which im pretty sure are a direct copy of the Edelbrock RPM's, as all flow numbers are almost identical. I ended up having to (?) port match the heads, just needed a little clean up, and then did the same with my intake manifold (also edelbrock performer dual-plane). exhaust side also got a tickle to take away some sharp edges.

Not sure on what +/- flow this would achieve, but im running with a .545/.545 comp cam, and .040 psitons, so im hoping for 550+ at the wheels.

As for pushrods, my retainers on the rocker gear were worn as, so I ended up going with new roller rockers, and pushrods. blew the budget out abit, but I wasnt keen on pulling it out again.

I hear along the grapevine Edelbrock are/have realeased a new head "victor" with even better flow

All the aftermarket aluminum heads have blind header bolt holes. My Dad said, "You have to be smarter than your cylinder heads and the header bolts." The best aftermarket buy on cylinder heads are the CNC Trick Flow offerings. Trick Flow is soon to release a 270cc Max Wedge head, which the OP has already said he isn't in the market for.

There are no mass produced aftermarket cylinder heads that should be installed OOTB, even if they claim they can be. Not even Trick Flow. Many people install aftermarket heads right OOTB but I build engines for a living and would never gamble with a customers engine. They all should be disassembled, cleaned and inspected. Though the Trick Flow is the best, I have found their valve to guide clearances a little tight for my liking and aluminum shavings in the ports. The Stealths desperately need prep involving valve job, port clean up, resurfacing, lock replacement and often (in my experience) the valve stems are scarred during the factory assembly and some valves need replacement. Edelbrock? They have the greatest selection of combustion chamber sizes, 88cc, 84cc and 75cc. The ones I have worked with also have some tight valve guides and tight heli-coils in the rocker arm stands. They need a valve job and general prep like the Stealths.

You should listen to and do what Jim La Roy says regarding anything that has to do with engines, period. I am finally getting some Trick Flow 240s and Jim was a big help in making a decision that many others have made, and been thoroughly pleased with.
Thanks Jim.
